Dr Cormack is a Consultant Occupational Physician providing a range of general and specialist occupational health services.

He gained an honours degree in pharmacology in 1992, prior to entering medical training, graduating from the University of Aberdeen in 1997.

Following the award of a medical cadetship in 1995, he commenced service as a Medical Officer in the Royal Navy, where he worked extensively with the Royal Marines, as well as a number key medical appointments in ships and establishments across the Fleet. He qualified as a General Practitioner in 2004, and entered higher professional training in Occupational Medicine in 2014; accrediting as a Consultant Occupational Physician in 2018.

He has a specialist interest in non-freezing cold injury, particularly in relation to occupational diving – having conducted novel research in this area – as well as extensive experience in the medical aspects of maritime aviation and, medical operational planning. His final appointment in the Royal Navy was as Head of Medical Employment Standards for the Royal Navy and Royal Marines, and President of the Medical Board of Survey – with responsibility for medical grading and ill health retirement for a population of 36,000 people with a remit to deploy worldwide at high readiness.

Dr Cormack has been the Medical Director of Proteus Occupational Medicine Services since he and his wife (a practising GP) established the company in 2018. He is experienced in providing occupational health solutions to local authority organisations, businesses, commerce, and industry; including the nuclear and renewables sector. He holds approved/appointed doctor status with the HSE under The, Control of Ionising Radiation Regulations (2017), The Control of Vibration at Work Regulations (2005) and, The Control of Asbestos Regulations (2012). He also holds the internationally recognised Diploma in Aviation Medicine.
